Re: Cacani 2d software with automatic inbetweening done right

But by generally established standards it is considered unethical to discuss the workings of other software on the forum of the current software. I understand that references are fair information, but to carry over another software's merits and demerits on this forum just because they have no forum...

Re: Cacani 2d software with automatic inbetweening done right

I still prefer to hand-draw my characters, but for things like fire, smoke, explosions, glimmer effects, plants and props it's sooo good not having to tween that stuff anymore. But why even those elements? Time and money. But with things like that there's almost no way you can tell the difference. ...

Re: Farewell !

This news hasn't gone down well at my office, Elodie and Fabrice were a big part of the reason we adopted TVPaint. Seemed like TVPaint, Wit Studio, Tatsunoko Pro, Signal MD, Studio Colorido, etc. were successfully managing a digital revolution and education programme in Japan, undoubtedly Elodie and...

Re: Cacani 2d software with automatic inbetweening done right

I am not saying that. I am trying to make a point that it makes little sense to animate 2D films in a hand drawn app so that they look as close to 3D animation as current technology will permit. The problem with those YouTube examples is they're done by amateurs, usually titled "test", etc. and oft...

Re: Anti Aliasing in Post

I miss two tools from Retas PaintMan. Color Drag: https://i.imgur.com/1O3x3Yn.gif This tool is similar to a color smudge tool, it picks up whatever color you click on and allows you to drag into only unfilled areas. So if there is many colors with unfilled gaps it allows quick color dragging without...

Re: Anti Aliasing in Post

I think it was mainly so the frames could be stored at a high resolution, if I remember right Studio Ghibli stored them as 5K, 150DPI, TIFF using CCIT Group 4 compression (aliased). Coloring techniques were then made around that workflow, HDD's weren't as cheap back in the day like they are today.

Re: Thundercats Roar

I think it's a clever soundbite that perhaps may mean something a little different depending on the era, but it's really starting to snowball and I'm kind of agreeing with it to be honest. I'm just glad something or someone is finally pointing out how stale, cheap and juvenile (American) animation h...

Try going into Wacom Tablet Properties and selecting your pen, find Tip Double Click Distance and turn it off. https://i.imgur.com/0hMsinP.jpg You can also try disabling Press and hold in Windows Flicks panel. Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Pen and Touch > Go to Pen Options tab > Press an...

Re: Opentoonz seems to be cleaning itself up.

Thanks Fabrice, very nice! The multi-color replacer is so good and the freehand shape fill tool was the last missing Retas feature for me. In anime we usually use a color coding process, so hair shadow is magenta (or something else) and skin shadow cyan (or something else), because the cleanup artis...

Re: Opentoonz seems to be cleaning itself up.

I did not mean to give the impression in my earlier post that I think the quality of the tools is totally unimportant [...] I was reacting to UsaMiko's comment [...] The extreme enthusiasm for OpenToonz seemed to me to be mostly related to the association with Studio Ghibli. Oh I see, my bad, it's ...

Re: New software: Storyboarder

@charlesforman This looks neat. But since you asked for feedback... Could you think about reworking the page to remove the derogatory remarks against Sony and tone down the language? Sony sponsors a lot of live action, animation and video game work and make a lot of great content, the remark seems h...

Re: Opentoonz seems to be cleaning itself up.

What studios ? Most studios I visited in Japan still animate on paper, then use a bunch of software like Retas or Sai for the painting process (when obviously they don't use TVPaint for these both tasks). CELSYS specifically list Kamikaze Douga, Asahi Production and Production I.G . Studio Colorido...

Re: Opentoonz seems to be cleaning itself up.

Agree with the points @neonnoodle is making, but I'd point out in Japan they're using Clip Studio Paint for the drawing process , so whether OpenToonz is any good in that regard won't matter. In regards to the tools don't matter remark, I don't agree. I think it's actually more difficult for a begin...

Naming Conventions and File Structure for 2D Animation?

For whatever reason different people use different naming conventions as does different industries and as personal as a file structure can be I'd be really interested in hearing how others manage their projects. How would you go about organizing your short film, series or feature in regards to termi...
