Re: Peanuts! Feature film by Blue Sky

I think if 2D is to die it will be because of, as Hayao Miyazaki says, lack of skill with the pencil. Those who have the skill are getting old and already are, or will soon retire. Young people want to learn 3D and go into video games. When you look at older work, you see so much magic done by hand,...

Re: Animated film about illegal dogfighting on Kickstarter

Man this looks good! Makes me wish I could animate.

Is it really that hard these days? To raise funds for what I would think should be a project that would appeal to so many people!

Re: iPad Pro version of TVPaint

Doesn't seem worth consideration to me. Generally, I don't think the iPad customer is a TVPaint customer. I don't see a lot of overlap in those markets.

Re: SLOCUM at sea with himself LAUNCHED

I saw the new site. Great work Paul! Artists need to take notice.  Slocum: At Sea With Himself is real 2D, hand drawn, animation featuring brilliant animation, lushly painted backgrounds and inspiring music. It tells the story of Joshua Slocum, who made a one man sailing voyage around the world. Eve...

Re: Video tutorials

Are you aware that I have a very detailed particle tutorial here? http://www.studioartfx.com/ArtFXshop/2Dtraining/files/tvpaint-particle-magic.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It has 3 hours of detailed instruction in the use of the generator and a complete content library (partic...

Re: Microsoft Buys N-Trig

I had a chance to play with one of the Lenovo tablets which uses the N-Trig pens. I didn't feel any noticeable difference between it and a Wacom model. I do remember hearing something bad about the N-Trig drivers, but I can't seem to find that old email now.

Microsoft Buys N-Trig

I know some Android tablets employ pens by N-Trig, a competitor to Wacom. According to Reuters, Microsoft has purchased the company for at least $200 million USD. Their Surface tablets have apparently already been using N-Trig pens, as opposed to Wacom, and now it seems that relationship is solidifi...

Re: How to make a living with 2D

I am very surprised I haven't come across this thread before. Since no one brought it up, I figured I'd throw it out there: PORN . There are independent animators making a living doing porn, a few are, dare I say, getting rich. There are digital download sites that seem to cater to this. This market...

Re: Multi feedback on tvpaint and why I will not buy it now

Anyone working int the field today worth their grit will tell you that TVPaint has it's strenghts and Photoshop and/or After Effects has other ones which are just as valuable, often even preferable, when working under pressure. For example, TVPaint's camera's (both in the FX stack and the Main Pane...

Re: Multi feedback on tvpaint and why I will not buy it now

Posts like this bother me because of the assumption that because Photoshop does things a certain way, and Photoshop has millions of users, everyone should follow them. I, personally, hate the way Photoshop does things, and have hated working with it for 20 years, or so. (in some studios you have no ...

Re: Anti Aliasing problem needs fixing badly!

Artfx, you mention that you have been doing tutorials. Where are these? I would like to see them and then I might be able to suggest what else could be done. Thanks! I did some of the tutorials here on this site, at the tutorials link above. There is also a link to my own tutorials in my signature ...

Re: Anti Aliasing problem needs fixing badly!

The way I see it, that is not a TVPaint thing. That is a "limitation of working with pixels" thing. Since the days of the Amiga computer I have known that if you're going to be working with, moving, scaling and resizing pixels, doesn't matter if it's in 2D or 3D, it is ideal to work at 2X resolution...

Update Page not working for me

My computer died last Thursday night. With good backups, I lost very little, but I, of course, must reinstall my software.

The TVPaint update page doesn't allow me to download the latest version. It simply says "There is no new version". How can I download TVPaint to put back on my system?

Re: Quicktime : the dying and abandonned file format

My worry with the demise of Quicktime is more about file sizes. Apple has a great codec, called the Apple Intermediate Codec. While being compressed as far as file size, I have yet to throw anything at it that is noticeably compressed. This format is made for editing. While MP4 works for most needs,...

Re: I seem to have lost my sketch panels . . .

I'm not sure where it would be on Windows, but you can find specific bins for just the parts you want to keep of your config. Copy them somewhere safe, and then delete your configs. After you start up with a new config, you can copy the pieces you want back. I do that with my FX Stack bins and parti...
