animation for robots

Guy Hoffman took animation classes, and applied some of what he learned to robotics. Here's his Ted talk: http://on.ted.com/Hoffman And I think more people involved in mechanical design should do the same. The gestures he built into his robots make a lot of difference. Art is important, in every wal...

Re: Manifeste

This is interesting because I never liked activism; people who want everyone else to think and do the way they want things to be, while showing very little interest in other people's thoughts. Now I have what I always thought activists to be about confirmed: they are just looking for something to d...

I am. I (usually) only draw every other frame

Re: Subscription system like Adobe CC

Adobe's 'Creative Cloud' allows access to their main consumer software. You don't have to be connected to the internet to use it, just to download it and have it 'authorized' (which they do every few months). Theoretically, you could DL and authorize your software, then go work in the internet-free ...

Paul, I certainly hope you profit even more than you would hope for. (maybe there's a merchandising deal you could make too...)

Re: Where is the Market?

So what sort of experience and knowledge can the businessman provide that I couldn't provide for myself? Is it mostly marketing and understanding something about advertising that I wouldn't? I think the 'businessman' is more about having the time and drive to devote to selling your stuff. I don't s...

Re: Where is the Market?

Sorry, it's not that bad. On Amazon, anyway. I don't know what it is on iTunes. You do get to set your own price. (prior information based on an overly dramatic producer) 70%? I suppose if you publish and ship the DVD yourself? I only saw a cost, plus 'selling fees' listed. https://www.createspace.c...

Re: Where is the Market?

I assume you meant "program" and not "product". Not really. If people are buying it, it's a product, isn't it? (even if the product is a program) Amazon DVD and streaming 'on demand' don't pay out much for indie stuff. The 'author' doesn't get a very good percentage (it's a strange scale for sales ...

Re: Where is the Market?

Bill Plympton does commercials. I think he's still at Acme Filmworks. He does a lot of 'for hire' work, and that makes up a fair percentage of his income. There are a LOT of 'feature' people that do advertising (and make a 'fair percentage' of their income from that). If you can make your $30.000 in...

Re: Where is the Market?

You want to make a "lower middle class living"? And, you want to pay for health care? In the US? I don't think those are mutually compatible. I don't know if I count in your definition. I've been freelance for about 30 years. I mostly do advertising on my own. I drop in on TV shows and movies for sh...

Re: Animation questions for what's used today

I still use cels. They are still used. If that's what you want to do, you could get a registration bar, for one. That's cheap, and will help. You can just tape one on to your lightbox. A bunch of frames from a still camera works too. Scanning into TVPaint is probably the better thing to do. You can ...

Re: Disney turns away from hand-drawn animation

Doesn't Disney still dub and redistribute Ghibli films? Obviously, someone can make that 2D stuff work. Just not the mega-corporation. They can't see that?

I see the problem as them lacking vision.

Looks like a Euphonix MC Transport. Now an Avid company. http://www.avid.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And, it's made fairly nicely for what it is. Look for "Artist Transport" (intended for audio use, but it works for other things too). Well, not mine. Maybe it's something else.

Re: barefoot running

Are you wearing 'barefoot' for everyday use, or just for running?

Wearing anything with any sort of heel rise after going 'barefoot' was a little painful for me. -That's just regular old athletic shoes. I'm mostly Merrill and VivoBarefoot for everyday use.

Re: Where is the Market?

I worked all my life to pay bills and now I take on the occasional commercial or even a documentary, I collect social security, I taught classes up until this fall (never again) and while doing all that I worked on Slocum, which is to say, this is what most animators can do as well unless they have...
