Re: A small medley of questions

I'm not one of the experts here, but I do export QTs and JPGs regularly, and I have imported some images into a project set to the wrong frame rate a couple of times. So there may be a way to re-set the frame rate without adding/losing frames, but at least this is what works for me. If you export a ...

Re: "Single FX" in the stack

The first thing I do with a new version of TV Paint is change it to Single Effect, so I know exactly what I am doing. I never use multiple effects, I hate effects lingering and being re-applied after I thought I was finished applying them - too easy to make a mistake and apply both the old and new e...

Re: stopmotion with mac?

For stop motion, I use a frame grabber to capture and preview the animation. For the highest quality I shoot with a Canon EOS 40d DSLR with Live View. Dragon (a Mac framegrabber) will work well with Canon or Nikon DSLRs - one click grabs the video live view for previewing, and also the final full si...

Re: Drawing copied to following frames?

Thanks for your replies! I've never heard of the Animator Panel, so I can look for it and find the Add Tweens, and see if that helps. Um... I haven't read Lesson 4 of the User Manual, because I didn't get a TVP manual when I upgraded from Mirage! And I never had this problem with Mirage. I do select...

Drawing copied to following frames?

I don't know if this is a bug, or the way some animators prefer to work - but here's what happens, and does anyone know how to stop it? I create a new animation layer in TVP 9 Animation, and drag it out to 20 frames with nothing on them. I draw something on frame one, say it's a falling ball. Then I...

Re: 16:9 rectangle tool?

Thanks Malcooning, that makes sense to me now.
But, aha, there IS another crop tool I never noticed before, which lets me read the size of the area I'm going to crop before I do it. I was using a longer and less effective way around all the time.

Re: 16:9 rectangle tool?

Slowtiger - Thanks, what a good idea, working on a small area of a large project! Never thought of that. I use Select Rectangle, Crop, but I can never get it to come out to exactly 1920 x 1080. Is there another Crop tool I've missed all these years? Arjan - Not sure if I understand your solution, bu...

Re: Quicktime export troubles!

Me too! I live in a country (Australia) that has PAL video at 25 fps. Occasionally I work at 24 fps. But I never, ever use 30 fps! I might expect this from a US company who is focussed on their domestic market, with little awareness of the rest of the world - but in France they use PAL/Secam video a...

Re: Quicktime export troubles!

I know that problem! It seems to happen with H264 compression, and possibly with some other codecs, but not all of them. I gave up and exported image sequences, then used QT Pro to make the QT movie, then I discovered in this forum that it depends on the codec. (It still isn't good enough, TVP - H26...

Re: Final Cut

I normally use 4:2:2 Uncompressed for final output, (usually in 1920 x 1080 HD 25 fps), but test versions to give the offline editor so I can get feedback are usually a lot easier for everyone if the file size is smaller.

Re: 16:9 rectangle tool?

I import 3:2 images in various sizes from a DSLR still camera, and want to re-size and crop to 16:9 HD. I can modify the project and specify the size in pixels I want (1920 x 1080) but can only crop all sides evenly, keeping the center. Why not have something like Photoshop's 9-square grid to say wh...

Re: Why do you work with tvp

Malcooning, Yes, I map the images of the robot onto a single-polygon rectangle in Lightwave. The backlight frame provides the matte ("transparency map" in LW) - the white background is fully transparent, the black silhouette is solid and shows the matching colour image. (Occasionally the edges of th...

Re: Why do you work with tvp

That's right! It handles soft edges and transparency beautifully. Tedious though, switching lights on and off. I'm using it for a flying robot with transparent dragonfly wings at the moment. I map the image sequences on a rectangular object in Lightwave 3d, with the backlight sequence as a transpare...

Re: Why do you work with tvp

My main use is a little different - I'm primarily a stop-motion animator, and I use it to fix up and composite my images. It does most of that well, and is far more straightforward to use than After Effects. I import a sequence or QT movie, and there it is, ready to work on. So my answer to the ques...

Re: Final Cut

I've usually had that box ticked (leaving it at keyframe every 24 frames) and I still get a one frame QT most of the time.
